Anxiety is that state of mind which is under pressure of stress and is the result of some fear about an event that is likely to happen affecting the person’s life. There are various reasons why anxiety comes to us. Anxiety is good to a certain extent since it tests our body’s ability to respond to situations and find out methods to overcome these situations. Let us have a quick look at what causes anxiety.
Anxiety is caused by several factors. A history of anxiety running in the family, an impending situation that is about to happen like the declaration of results in an examination, death of a loved one, worsening health condition of someone in the family, are some of the pertinent causes for anxiety. What causes anxiety is to be understood first before trying to understand the remedies for this disorder.
Anxiety is not a disease. It is not something that happens regularly or something that a person suffers from over a period of time. If anxiety remains over a period of time, it is said that the person is suffering from anxiety attack disorder and would need medical guidance immediately.
Although the symptoms vary from one anxiety disorder to another, there are certain common characteristics that all anxiety disorders share. Hence, while a person with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) may feel this uncontrollable urge to wash his hands every few minutes and a person with Panic Disorder may get frequent and random panic attacks, what remains common in both scenarios is that both these people will be perpetually anxious about what they’re going through. Thus, the person with OCD might begin to worry about how clean his hands are even though he washed his hands only a few minutes ago, while the person suffering from the Panic Disorder may perpetually fret about when his next panic attack is to occur.
In trying to understand what causes anxiety, one must not overlook the fact that anxiety and panic are related terms. Panic is a stressful condition of very less duration; anxiety is something that lingers on for sometime though both the situations do not last for more than a day or so. Unless it is extremely severe, anxiety does not require medicines.
If you are suffering from anxiety, try the simple technique of deep breathing. Pumping in fresh oxygen as much as possible helps in improved blood circulation to the brain which is chiefly responsible for the anxiety related signals through the nervous system. Do this for at least 15 to 20 minutes every morning and evening.
Drink as much water as you can to throw out toxic substances from your body. Sleep well. Do not overstretch yourself in meeting deadlines. If you have, take adequate rest to ensure that your body and mind are geared to take on another assignment. Unwind before going to sleep. Let some soothing music play on for sometime as sleep comes up.
